The key to properly applying a Cytek shoe is a careful hoof analysis. With proper Cytek instruction, any farrier can develop an eye for how to assess and prepare a hoof. Once the bottom of the hoof is levelled, the farrier locates the correct landmarks for placement. With the shoe attached, the farrier rounds the overhanging toe and the horse is free to wear the remaining toe to its individual requirements, thus maintaining hoof balance for many weeks.

With the Cytek shoe properly attached, the new hoof is free to grow from the coronet unimpeded by leverage created by the toe. The results are a vastly improved quality of horn and the elimination of flares, cracks, brittle feet, long toe and contracted heels. When this leverage is relieved, it also takes the strain off the various blood vessels inside the hoof and a major improvement in blood flow/supply throughout the hoof capsule is achieved.

The frog becomes large and robust and can finally act out the weight bearing, shock-absorbing, blood circulating role for which it was designed. With a properly applied Cytek shoe, the sole, frog and hoof wall all bear the appropriate weight and the foot is in balance just as nature intended.

Wearing Cytek shoes, the horse can develop its own most efficient stride, with a consistent breakover point. By contrast, the breakover point of the rim-shod horse is inconsistent. The Cytek horse will generally be more comfortable, more sure-footed and expend less energy. With less strain and distortion to the hoof capsule, and less strain on the bones, joints and tendons, the Cytek horse should perform better, longer and most likely maintain its usefulness and quality of life for many years.

The Cytek System is a sound solution for all shod horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. Hoof pathologies can be prevented and existing problems improved dramatically. A happier, healthier animal is the result. The cost and worry of keeping equines can be reduced thanks to fewer shoeings and fewer pathology related expenses.
